Title: Dr. John McLoughlin the Father of Oregon
Author: Frederick V. Holman
Description: Author's Edition, 1 of 100 signed presentation copies. Ex-non circulating private library. Pale seafoam green cloth boards with gilt on spine. Gilt top edge. A bit of fray to head of spine. Spine shows some soiling and a light label blemish. Some leaves are unopened/uncut. A couple newspaper clippings of book reviews are affixed to the front blank flyleaves. Two portraits of McLoughlin on plates (including frontispiece). Index. 301 pp. 9.5 x 6.5 inches.
Presentation copy. Signed and inscribed by Holman to the Pacific-Union Club of San Francisco on the verso of the half-title page. The Pacific-Union Club was an exclusive gentleman's club, which around this time accounted among it's members William Randolph Hurst and Theodore Roosevelt Jr, as well as Portland's John Churchill Ainsworth, president of the Unites States National Bank and son of Oregon pioneer Capt. J.C. Ainsworth.
This volume was a part of the Pacific-Union Club's library and has its bookplate and rubber stamp. It appears that a spine call label was removed at some point.
