Genealogy and biographical notes on Colonel John McNeal (c. 1680-1765) and six generations of his American descendants. John McNeal was born in Scotland and came to Berks County, Pennsylvania, sometime between 1700 and 1722. The author states that it is plausible that he was the first McNeal in Pennsylvania. Quite a bit of family narrative is provides for many of the McNeal descendants.
Also includes sections on the associated family lines of John Good (b. 1812, Hardy Count, Virginia?) and Susannah/Susan Harman (b. 1816 Green County, Tennessee); Johannes/John Broyles (immigrated to Virginia from Germany in 1717); Michael Wilhoit/Wilhide (b. 1685 in Germany) including the DAR application pertaining to Revolutionary War soldier Jesse Wilhoit of Culpeper County, Virginia; James Fullen, Sr. (found in Washington County, Virginia in 1786) and the Winkle family; Josiah Barnes (b. Jan 1792, Virginia); and the family of William Hornbuckle Davis (b. 1805 Virginia) and Bayless Renoe (b. abt. 1760 Alexandria, Virginia).
Includes many hand drawn illustrations: quite a few portraits and an 1853-1869 property map of an area in Atchison County, Missouri located not too far from Brownsville, Nebraska. The author, William Howard McNeal (1899-1976), was born in The Dalles, Oregon. His father and grandfather had come to Oregon in the 1880's from Virginia and Tennessee.
