Kiki is at her grandmother's home where it has had a deep snow. She tries out a variety of activities in the snow, snowshoeing, sledding, skiing, and taking a sleigh ride. Back home, she receives a pair of ice-skates for Christmas, and is taken for skating lessons at a rink.

Charlotte Steiner (1898-1981) was a prolific author of children's books. She was born in Czechoslovakia and studied art in Prague, Vienna and Paris prior to her moving to the United States.
