The author, Hassan Ibrahim Hassan (1892-1968), was a well-respected historian, author, and professor of Islamic History at the University of Cairo and as Rector of the University of Assiut. He had also taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Rabat and lectured at many other universities. He received one of his doctorates from the University of London, where he had worked closely with the noted orientalist Sir Thomas Walker Arnold.
