Henry Truro Bray (1846-1922) was an English-born minister, philosopher, and physician. After immigrating to the Unites States, he served as a Methodist minister and then spent ten years as an Episcopal Priest, finally resigning in 1889 due to an incompatibility of beliefs, his departure partly connected to the publication of this book in 1888. Later in his career he turned to practicing medicine.
