Poetry by Mable Holmes Parsons.
Many Oregon authors studied under Mable Holmes Parsons (1872-1953), a Professor of English who taught creative writing at the University of Oregon since 1912 and who also taught at the Portland Extension Center. Some of her noted students included the Oregon poet laureate Ethel Romig Fuller, Alfred Powers, Frances Gill, and Laura Miller.
The previous owner, Elizabeth Crawford Yates (1885-1955), at the time of her death, was considered by many to be the de facto poet laureate of Washington state. A resident of Vancouver, her poems often appeared in The Oregonian. She was also the grandniece of Kelso's founder, Peter Crawford.
