Autobiography of Alaskan governor, U.S. Senator, and journalist, Ernest Gruening (1887-1974). Gruening was born in New York City and graduated from Harvard. After serving as an editor for the The New York Herald Tribune, The New York Post, The Nation, and the Boston Traveler, he went to work for the Roosevelt administration in 1933, where he served in the Department of the Interior as was Administrator of the Puerto Rico Reconstruction Administration. He was Governor of the Alaskan Territory between 1939 and 1953, and served as U.S. Senator for Alaska between 1959 and 1969.
