Paul Goble (1933-2017) was a Caldecott Medal-winning British-American writer and illustrator of children's books, known for his telling of Native American stories and greatly influenced by Plains Indian culture. In 1977, he moved to the Black Hills in South Dakota, was adopted by Chief Edgar Red Cloud, and spent time with the Sioux on the Pine Ridge Reservation, learning their stories.
