he Men of Friday is a political novel set in the Arab world, in the last years of King Farouk of Egypt, and illuminates two levels of Arab life: the exotic, decadent Egypt of the pashas, and the village, whether in the Delta or on the roofs of Cairo tenements, where rebellion stirs among numerous groups, including the group which is the namesake of this novel.
Desmond Stirling Stewart (1924-1981) was a British writer and journalist who spoke Arabic fluently and worked for many years in Baghdad, Beirut, and Cairo.
