Cutlery and silver-plate table-ware catalog. The first 150 pages present items manufactured by Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company and is fully illustrated. The remainder of the catalog is a price list (with about a dozen illustrated pages) of items, mostly silverware, also manufactured by Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. ''under the personal supervision of Mr. Wm. Rogers.'' Both were based in Wallingford, Connecticut.
Markley, Alling & Co. was located at 53 and 55 Lake Street, Chicago, between approximately 1878 and 1895 (based on city directories and newspaper articles). The company was formed around 1864 and conducted business until 1895, when it was renamed the John Alling Company. The longtime company partners were John Alling (1828-1900) and John A. Markley (1824-1907).
