Sparks from Home Fires is Monroe's book of stories from her lakeside farmhouse in western Oregon. At the time it was written, she had been living close to Lake Oswego for a dozen years, and this provides the backdrop to her observations of life and the people of the community.
Anne Shannon Monroe (1873-1942) was an American writer and novelist. Though born in Missouri, she resided in Washington state throughout her youth and early adulthood. She lived for a few years in Chicago before moving to Oregon in 1907. In addition to writing several novels she was also a contributor to several magazines including the Saturday Evening Post, Good Housekeeping, and the Ladies' Home Journal.
