The first novel by British author and playwright Anthony Thorne (1904-1973). He was the author of several books and published his final work in 1957. Two of his more popular novels were Delay in the Sun (1935) and Fruit in Season (1938).
Set in Bohemian London and Paris and the English countryside, She Takes a Lover is the tale of the young and pretty Frances Dane, whose husband falls off a cliff in Switzerland on page one. In her new freedom, she decides to focus on developing her self and pursuing independence, but ends up taking a lover, goaded on by her vicarious mother-in law. But the relationship ultimately disappoints, and the dissolute gentleman departs, leaving her with child. A novel portraying a modern woman's attitude to love.
