The author's tour begins in September 1898 in the city of Portland, and continues through its final hundred pages with further descriptions of travels to St. Louis, Washington DC, New York, Boston, the Maritime Provinces, St. Paul, Chicago, and Yellowstone.
The author, Sarah Elma (nee White) MacGibbon (1863-1942), was born in Nashwaak Village, New Brunswick, Canada. She immigrated to the Unites States in 1890 and married George L. MacGibbon, who at the time of the publication of his wife's book was a manager for the Aetna Banking & Trust Company of Butte, Montana. They lived in Portland during the 1910s-1920s.
