These letters were written under Lockhart's pseudonym, Dr. Peter Morris. John Gibson Lockhart (1794-1854) was a Scottish critic, novelist, and the notable biographer of father-in-law, Sir Walter Scott. He was a contributor to Blackwood's Magazine and aligned with the Tory Party.
This set came from the collection of John Wilson (c. 1826-1900), an Irish-born pioneer merchant and book collector of Portland, Oregon.
