Monsignor William S. Stone (1916-2001), was born in Umatilla County and raised in the Dalles. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1943 and was assigned to various Oregon parishes over the years, including Dufur, Baker City, Klamath Falls, Chiloquin, Madras, Milton-Freewater, Redmond, and The Dalles. He retired in 1983. In 1994 he received the Bishop Francis P. Leipzig Award from the Archdiocese Historical Commission of Oregon.
