About the Author.
Sripati Chadrasekhar (1918-2001) was a well-known Indian demographer, sociologist, professor, scholar, and vice-chancellor of Annamalai University. He earned his doctorate from New York University in 1944. While studying in the United States during the years of the second world war, he met and conducted conversations with Coomaraswamy in New York, Bryn Mawr, and Boston. Later, in 1967, he was appointed as India's Minister of Health and Family Planning under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He spent many years traveling and teaching around the world, primarily addressing the concern of population in India.
