A descriptive account of the daily experience of commercial airline pilots, as it was in the early 1940s, and which follows the career experiences of Capt. Harry Johnson ''Jack'' Zimmerman (1906-1942), a pioneer of commercial aviation and chief pilot for TWA who had logged over two million miles in the air. An Army flier prior to joining TWA, he also piloted the first Boeing 307 Stratoliner on its inaugural flight in 1940 which established a transcontinental speed record.
Million-Miler was originally published in the spring of 1942, a few months before Jack Zimmerman's death, which occurred tragically when his plane crashed into the St. Laurence River and capsized in early November. His remains were finally located by the Canadian authorities in 2009.
