Written by the Scottish poet and literary biographer William Sharp (1855-1905) under his pseudonym Fiona Macleod. A collection of beautifully written essays on Celtic folk tales and the spiritual significance and heritage of Gaelic folklore. Also included are Sharp's accounts and commentary about his collecting of folk legends in the Scottish Highlands and the Hebrides wherein he tells of the place and from whom he gathered each tale and then tells the tales as he recorded them in his notebooks.
William Sharp was an influential figure in the Celtic Revival, an associate of W. B Yeats, a participant in Dante Gabriel Rossetti's literary circle, and a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
