Item: [photograph] cabinet card portrait of Grandmother Scott, Portland, Oregon.
Description: Cabinet card portrait of ''Grandmother Scott,'' likely a resident of Portland, Oregon. The photograph was probably from sometime between 1894 and 1900. [The mounting card identifies the ''Hayes'' photographic studio of Portland, Oregon. Robert O. Brown's Nineteenth Century Portland, Oregon Photographers: A Collector's Handbook notes that, during the period between 1894 and 1900, Hayes' cards generally did not list his address.]
The woman has a refined appearance. We speculated whether or not this could be Margaret McChesney Scott (1850-1925), wife of the The Oregonian proprietor, Harvey W. Scott. We were not able to verify this. We also noted that there were about a dozen married or widowed women with the last name of Scott in Portland around this time.
Fine condition. On the backside is written in pen, ''Grandmother Scott''. The photo itself measures 5.55 x 3.8 inches. The mounting board measures 7.5 x 5.5 inches.
Condition: Fine
Place: Portland, Oregon
Year: circa 1900
