James Bird (d. 1874, London) was educated at St. Bartholomew's Hospital and became a Licentiate of the Apothecaries' Society in 1821, and Member of the Royal Society of Surgeons in 1825. He began his practice at Cardiff, where he was Surgeon to the Royal Glamorgan Light Infantry Regiment Militia. After a few years he relocated to Portman Square in London where he was to maintain a considerable practice, retiring in about 1856.
