Written in 1938 with the crisis overshadowing the work and the author reconciling himself to the inevitability of war.
Robert Gathorne-Hardy (1902-1973) was a British writer, poet, botanist, and horticulturalist. In 1960 he was made a Fellow of the Linnean Society.
