Liam O'Flaherty's third novel, a tense drama set in Dublin in the early 1920s during the milieu of the Irish Civil War. It won the 1925 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for fiction and was adapted into film in 1935. The film, directed and produced by John Ford, earned four Academy Awards.
