Title: The Descendants of Alexander the Great of Macedon: The arguments and evidence that today's Macedonians are descendants of the ancient Macedonians (part one - folklore elements)
Author: Aleksandar Donski
Description: Softcover. Light wear. Title page creased and a few dog-ear creases. Interior is clean and unmarked. 247, [4] pages.
A study of the ethnic origin of modern Macedonians, supporting the theory that they are descended from the ancient Macedonians, contextualized through the analysis of folklore, cultural traditions, and mythological motifs and symbols. Includes about fifty pages of historic background, providing some detail on twentieth-century political and cultural developments in the Vardarian, Pirinian, Aegean, and Albanian parts of Macedonia. This work is presented as a corrective to the attempt to unify Yugoslav populations through the perception of a common slavic heritage. The work here also seeks to differentiate Macedonians from Greeks.
The author, Aleksandar Donski (b. 1960), is a graduate of the University of Skopje and has written several books, including Ethno-genetic Differences Between Macedonians and Bulgarians, The Contribution of the Macedonians to World Civilization, and Today's Descendants of Samuils's Royal Dynasty.
