Lois Snelling (1893-1988) was a longtime resident of Benton County and the city of Rogers in northwest Arkansas. She was the author of three other juvenile mysteries, all of which are set in the Ozark region of Arkansas: Treasure in the Valley (1958), Strange Case at Willowood (1959), and Secret of the Red Gourd (1961). She also wrote a biography of the populist presidential candidate and developer of the Arkansas resort community of Monte Ne, William Hope ''Coin'' Harvey.
