A collection of sketches and short stories, including twelve sketches of ''Him and Her'' portray an old farm couple in the Pacific Northwest; five sketches are based on ''Uncle Sylvester'' and his adventures in heaven--including his going fishing; the story of a boy who rescues a sea bird; and many other pieces which range from straight narrative to a beautiful and almost mystical allegory. Inscribed by Lampman to Leonard Wiley (1904-1987), botanist, author of two books on plants of the Pacific Northwest, biographer of Frederic Homer Balch, and Lampman's close personal friend.
