Genealogy of a Dutch-American family with the surname Staats, who left Amsterdam and sailed to New Netherland in the mid-17th century, and later followed the Oregon Trail to settle down in Polk County, Oregon. The author traces her ancestry to Major Abraham Staats (Amsterdam, 1620 - Albany, New York, 1694), who immigrated in 1642 to the Dutch new world colony of New Netherland.
This detailed family history traces the family from Major Abraham Staats through the line of his son Jochem Staats (1654-1712), grandson Isaac Staats (1701-c. 1765), and great-grandson Willem Staats (1736-1825), all of Albany, New York. The next descendant, Isaac William Staats, Jr., came to Oregon in 1845 with the wagon train of William T'Vault and settled in Luckiamute/Airlie, in Polk County, Oregon.
