The story revolves around Clare, a young nurse at a small California hospital, who has a strong emotional attachment to her adoptive brother Larry (their mother thinks they should marry) and is uncertain about her engagement to Hal, the hospital's staff psychiatrist. The story of these tangled relations and Hal's behavior unfolds in an unsettling fashion.
Florence Stonebraker (1896-1977), aka Florence Stuart, was a prolific author whose work included risque pulp fiction, lesbian fiction, and more conventional romances.
