A novel and thinly disguised biographical portrayal of President Woodrow Wilson, showing his character, temperament and weaknesses, demonstrating (as the front flap blurb says), ''a conflict between strong natural impulse and moral rectitude that tormented his whole life and colored his actions as well as his dreams. Although there were many occasions when he fled from flagrant temptations of the flesh, he never threw off the shackles.'' In the character of ''Johnny'' Darrow Drummond, Wilson is depicted through each stage of life, from childhood up through his ascendancy on the national and world stages as President of the United States; the novel reveals a man who ever remained susceptible to feminine domination. Characters loosely portrayed include William Jennings Bryan, Colonel House, Andrew Carnegie, Grover Cleveland, and Wilson's daughters and wives.
The author, Leslie J. Swabacker (1885-1955), was a writer of books and movies, including his work on the screenplay for the 1943 Columbia Pictures serial film Batman.
