A novel of historical fiction, based on the author's real experiences in the West River country of South Dakota during the years 1926-1932, revolving around a ranch near Isabel at the border of Ziebach and Dewey counties. The narrative includes quite a bit of interaction with Sioux characters.
Georgia Aydelotte Holden (1896-1983) arrived in the West River country as a young bride in 1919 and got to know survivors of the Indian Wars as well as relatives of the Sioux killed at Wounded Knee.
