Title: Ekichweka ky'okubanza: Empoya [&] Empoya Ezihya
Description: Two songbook pamphlets. 60 + 37, [3] pages.
Two scarce 1930s missionary songbooks in the Haya language (Bantu) of Tanzania, spoken in the area around the south coast of Lake Victoria. These were working copies owned by the German missionary Pastor Dr. Hans Leitner (b. 1904), who was stationed in German East Africa in the 1930s. The only copies located on OCLC are at Frankfurt University. Both booklets are bound in a heavily worn, improvised binding. The volume shows heavy use. The first booklet is lacking its front cover. Some leaves are loose; a few additional hymns and Bible verses in Haya have been added. Melodic notation has been added to several of the songs.
The first volume is rubber-stamped on the title page ''Pastor Dr. H. Leitner / Bethelmission P.O. Kamachumu / via Bukoba, via Mombassa / Ostarfika, Tanga-Territ
