The significance of the Holy Spirit in Creation is discussed and in following chapters the author describes the work of the Holy Spirit in its relation to Creation, to Adam, to Old Testament Saints, to Christ's Earthly Life, to Pentecost and the earliest days of the Church, and in relation to Outward Signs, to Holy Communion, Prayer, Union with the Preacher, and to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
David Vaughan Gwilym (1851-1911) was an Episcopal minister in Maine and New York City. He was born and raised in Wales, emigrated to Canada and later served as rector of the Episcopal church in Houlton, Maine in the late 1880s. In 1890, he was appointed rector at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lewiston, Maine. In 1894, he disaffiliated with the Episcopal Church and joined the Baptist Church, serving as minister of the MacDougal Street Baptist Church in Manhattan 1895-1896. He then returned to the Episcopal Church and was connected to two Manhattan churches during the years 1897 to 1902: Holy Trinity Church/St. Christopher's House & the Church of the Holy Apostles. He then served as rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Bayside, Queens, Long Island from 1902 to 1906, and beginning in 1910, for a short period prior to his unexpected death, was rector at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Norwich, Connecticut.
