A rare jacketed copy of this novel of pioneers and Native Americans, set in Oregon. ''The story deals with the travels of a young botanist who starts from Sauvies Island in 1854 in search of a white girl who he has learned is living with an Indian tribe. He goes through the Neahkahnie country and ends up at Crater Lake, where the climax takes place.'' - review in The Oregonian, Sept. 8, 1929. ''The journey, search, and resolution are surrounded by descriptions of flora and fauna, Native beliefs and actions, and historical backgrounds from familiar first-hand sources, such as Hudson's Bay Company records and exploration narratives.'' - OregonEncyclopedia.org.
