Robert E. Gard (1910-1992) was a prominent dramatist, folklorist and professor emeritus of creative writing at University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as the founder of the Wisconsin Idea Theater, the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association, the School of the Arts in Rhinelander, and the publishing corporation Wisconsin House. His WHA-Radio program, and WHA-TV program in the later-1950s, ''Wisconsin Is My Doorstep,'' was well-known to the people of Wisconsin.

Illustrated by Frank Utpatel (1905-1980), a lifelong resident of Wisconsin, best known for his Arkham House book covers.
