Dewey Ami Mitchell (1896-1963) was a graduate of the Tokyo School of Jiu Jitsu and a prominent expert in self defense. During the 1930s and early 1940s, he served as a self defense instructor for the Cleveland Police Department, the FBI, and the U. S. Army. He moved from Cleveland to Texas in the late 1940s, and continued to give public exhibitions in self defense.
