The USS Thetis Bay (CVHA-1) was the Navy's first assault helicopter aircraft carrier. This Casablanca-class escort carrier was originally launched in 1944 as CVE-90 and then converted in 1955 while in dock at San Francisco.
In addition to ship life, portraits of officers, and group shots of many of the enlisted sailors (with name identification), it includes pictures from the July 1956 recommissioning ceremony and the WESTPAC cruise, with departure from Long Beach in July 1957 and ports of call at Honolulu, Yokosuka, Kamakura, Kobe, Kyoto, Hong Kong, and Okinawa.
