A humorous, witty little book touching on the character of women and the particularities of relations with them, written by Laurens Maynard and distributed to his friends during the Christmas of 1912.

In 1899, the writer and publisher Laurens Maynard (1866-1917) co-founded the Boston publishing firm of Small, Maynard & Company. He left the firm in 1907 to work as a representative for the New York City publishing house of Brentano's. He was a native of Boston and a graduate of the Boston Latin School. Following graduation, he briefly lived in Denison, Iowa (1884-1885), where he worked as a teacher at the Center school in Milford Township, and learned something of the printing trade at the Denison Review, before returning to Boston.
