He was known for his stagecoach and mule-train robberies, and was an associate and fellow gang member with George and Cyrus Skinner. In 1959, he was killed and buried in Auburn, Placer County, California.
The author, Robert Baker Elder (1915-2008), was a novelist and a lifelong resident of Auburn, California.
