This special, Knopf-authorized presentation was broadcast on Seattle radio station KOMO and featured at 16-piece orchestra conducted by the Lincoln High School music teacher Carl Pitzer. KOMO's announcer, the 6-foot-8 Frederick Lloyd, played the role of Paul Bunyan, his voice magnified by the station's echo chamber. Stevens, a long-time Seattle resident, was on hand to make a curtain appearance.
