A richly detailed, interpretive study of the old American farm, typically farms of the past. Rawson gives a picture of early farm life and those customs and habits of life and work which are now so largely forgotten. The old farmhouse, the barns and their outbuildings, the log cabin, the domestic animals, and the trappings which they wore, and the farmer himself have all been given chapters. At the end of each chapter is a short farm story which illustrates even more vividly the spirit of early farm life, its isolation, and heroism, its pathos and humor, its real romance.
