This short volume consists of an essay written by Lambert Wood for a geology course he took at Williams College (Williamstown, Mass.), which his professor sent to his mother, the notable author Elizabeth Lambert Wood, following his death. Lambert was killed in action while commanding a company during an advance in the Aisne-Marne Offensive, Soissons, France. The first few pages provide an introductory account of his decorated war service, a one-page tribute from another soldier, and a sympathetic letter of condolences written by Lambert's geology professor, Herdman Fitzgerald Cleland. Lambert Alexander Wood (1895-1918) was a native of Portland, Oregon.
