A Cold War-era account of dissidents in East Germany, mostly young men under the age of 28, mostly students, who were organizing in the period immediately following the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, by which they had been inspired. It describes the people that formed the opposition group, their ideas, why they resisted suppression and how danger influenced their behavior. Many of the students were at the University of Jena. ''2x2=8'' was a code for the anticipated time for de-Stalinization. Includes a list of the twenty-four persons who were condemned, during a series of trials in September and October 1958, to a total of 112 years of penal servitude.
