The author, Mark Vern Weatherford (1886-1962), documents the story of his grandparents and their descendants who settled in Oregon and Washington. His maternal grandparents were William Sperry (1811-1857) and Cynthia Clark (1811-1881); they crossed the plains in 1851 and settled on a Donation Land Claim near Brownsville, in Linn County, Oregon; William was a Baptist minister and circuit rider for the Albany/Linn County area. The author's paternal grandparents were Alfred Harrison Weatherford (1814-1855) and Sophia A. Smith (1819-1861) and his father was William Washington Weatherford (b. 1844, Putnam County, Missouri, d. 1926), who came to Oregon around 1861.
The appendix is a 21 page name list of all the descendants of the Sperry-Weatherford family (including names of spouses and children, but not including dates or places).
