The Ninety-Six District was created in 1769 and appears to have included all of Edgefield, Saluda, McCormick, Abbeville, Greenwood, Pickens, Oconee, Anderson, Laurens, Union, and Spartanburg counties, and most of Newberry and Cherokee counties. To the west, the district bordered Georgia and was home to many early Georgia settlers.
