The great American novelist, Thomas Wolfe (junior class), is pictured and/or listed on many pages, including a photograph of him in the role of Buck Gavin in his own play ''The Return of Buck Gavin'' as put on by the newly formed Carolina Playmakers.

He is pictured in his junior class portrait, which also appears on the pages of the Debaters and Orators of the Dialectic Society and the staff pages of both Yackety Yack and The Magazine; he additionally appears in group photos for the Kappa Chapter of th Pi Kappa Phi, the Odd Number Chapter of Sigma Upsilon, and the Buncombe County Club. He is also listed as a member of the Satyrs, University Battalion ('E' Company), Amphote Rothen, Omega Delta, the Dialectic Literary Society, and is credited as the Managing Editor of the school's daily paper, The Tar Heel. The student body also included the future North Carolina governor, Luther H. Hodges (senior class).
