77 pages of photographs commemorating the 1917 St. Paul Outdoor Sports Carnival, along with a two-page description of the events. The carnival highlighted a variety of sports and had three parades. In addition to the torchlight and auto parades, there was a significant opening day parade, which featured 30,000 marchers from marching clubs which was reportedly seen by a quarter million spectators.

A great many of the photos depict the numerous marching clubs, which typically represented local businesses (Northern Pacific Railroad being the largest), as well as some which hailed from out of state. There are also several pages of photos of carnival ''queens,'' and images of prominent figures (including John Philip Sousa, the Carnival King ''Boreas Rex,'' and the President of the Carnival Association, Louis W. Hill). Interspersed among the photos of marching clubs and carnival queens are montages of the parades and decorated autos, the ski jump, dog sled teams and mushers, kids tobagganing, as well as photos of a banquet inside the Louis Hill house and a night view of the Ice Palace at Rice Park.
