The author, Joseph V. Eiguren (1915-1996), though born in Jordan Valley, Oregon, spent his first two decades in Euskadi, returning to the United States in 1934. He began teaching Basque language classes in Boise in 1963, and over the years to wrote countless articles for newspapers and magazines on the Basque history, culture and language. He was also the author of several books, including the first ever Basque-English Dictionary (1974), The Basque History Past & and Present (1972), and Kashpar: The Saga of the Basque Immigrants to North America (1988).
