Title: Every Little Movement: A Book About Francois Delsarte
Author: Ted Shawn
Description: Inscribed by Ted Shawn on half-title page. Covers soiled. Spot of soiling on spine. Interior is clean, pages crisp. 127 pages.
Ted Shawn's book on the French declamation and acting coach, Francois Delsarte (1811-1871) and his system, which had been a significant influence on both his own and his wife Ruth St. Denis' dance work. Both had come, just as Isadora Duncan had, to the Delsarte system through a direct lineage of teachers, with Ted Shawn studying under Richard Hovey, a pupil of Delsarte's son Gustave. Ruth St. Denis had learned the system from her mother, who had studied with Delsarte's pupil Mme. Pote. The volume includes the author's 36-page heavily-annotated Delsarte system bibliography.
This is an unabridged republication of the Second Revised and Enlarged edition as published by the author in 1963 (here published by Dance Horizons in 1968).
Inscribed to Ruby Page Euwer (1888-1972), a world traveler, renowned speaker on Theosophy, and former wife of the Portland, Oregon poet and painter, Anthony Euwer. ''To Ruby-Page Euwer / with all high greetings. / From / Ted Shawn''.
