A history of Montezuma Seminary, the Jesuit training ground for Mexican aspirants to the priesthood, chronicled primarily through a collection of documents, letters, and official reports pertaining to the purchase, rehabilitation and administration of the seminary.
Montezuma Seminary was located near Las Vegas, New Mexico and was founded in 1936 by the United States Bishops and the work of the Bishop's Committee with Bishop John Mark Gannon as chairman. Its founding was instigated as a result of the repercussions of the Cristero War in Mexico and the anticlerical policies of the Mexican government. The seminary closed in 1972, after the issues with the Mexican government had been resolved. Of the nearly three thousand students who attended over the years, a little over a thousand were ordained priests.
