First published in 1917 under the title ''The Problems of Mysticism and its Symbolism,'' this edition has been reformatted for the modern reader by S. N. Parsons and Absinthe Publishing.
Divided in three parts (Parable, Analytical and Synthetic), this work attempts to reconcile the philosophies of Hermeticism, Alchemy and general occultism with Freudian concepts. A work of scholarly imagination, treating both symbolism and mysticism, and showing the relationship between the modern unconscious to many forms of thinking in the middle ages. The author, Herbert Silberer (1882-1923), was a Viennese psychoanalyst involved with Sigmund Freud's inner-circle, including Carl Jung and other pioneers of psychological study.
