Laid-in is a 16-page typed list of persons in the 435th with their latest home address (the list is undated, but based on the addresses, it is likely from the period 1946-49).
A history and pictorial of the 435 Troop Carrier Group in World War II in Europe. The 435th consisted of the 75th, 76th, 77th and 78th Troop Carrier Squadrons. With departures from North Africa to England to D-Day on Normandy Beach, to the coastal invasion of Southern France and operations in Holland (north of Eindhoven), Belgium (Bastogne), and Germany (near Wesel/Rhine River), along with camp at the Tarquinia base in Italy. Includes 11 pages of history, describing movement and operations, with the rest of the volume being a pictorial which includes photos of the combat crews in each troop carrier squadrons (airmen identified by last name). It also provides a roster with addresses for each squadron and a list of those KIA/MIA.
Original owner (name on inside of front cover) was Fred F. Goller (1918-1998), who enlisted in the Air Force on 16 Jan 1942 and was assigned to the 75th Troop Carrier Squadron. He piloted a glider at D-Day on Normandy Beach (scan of newspaper interview with him about it is laid-in). In September 1946, he held the rank of Captain and was serving as a public relations officer for the 75th TCS at Lawson Field, Columbus, Georgia. By 1963, he had been raised to the rank of colonel.
